Fishing from shore or boat

Snapper, bream, mullet, mackerel, cobia, tailor, whiting or flathead are a few of the targeted species fished for from the ocean side or from the Macleay River.
April and May generally is the time where you may experience the hauling of mullet, captured in nets from the beach by licenced professional fisherman, generally along Main beach.

What is your favourite tackle?

Lures or live bait.

South West Rocks Fishing for all ages is catered for by the tackle shops in the village.

The rock wall at The Entrance of the Macleay river is a popular spot for fishing due to the wide concrete path to fish off, directly into relatively deep water. Jew fish, bream, blackfish and flathead are the main species caught.
Chater boats are available for deep sea fishing as well as hire boats for river use.
